As craft beer continues to increase in popularity in the south, so do the number of establishments catering to craft beer culture. From festivals, to bars, to restaurants, Auburn’s craft-beer game is on point. Check out the five places we think you should visit next time you find yourself on The Plains.

Bringing a taste of Germany to the town of Auburn is something the Auburn Oktoberfest has been doing phenomenally for the past 10 years.

Considered one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s top twenty events, Oktoberfest boasts 150+ beers from over 100 breweries from across the United States. No matter who you are, Auburn Oktoberfest will have a beer for you.

The event includes live entertainment, competitions, grub from local food trucks, and even showcases Auburn University’s Brewing Sciences program through live demonstrations. Auburn Oktoberfest does a great job of combining German traditions with southern craft-beer culture. Be sure to check it out!

The Hound

For those familiar with Auburn, you know that The Hound is a staple within the community. With legendary food and a great atmosphere, this family owned restaurant is a go-to for dinners, brunch and everything in between.

Even better than the food (debatably) is The Hound’s craft beer selection. Boasting a rotating menu of 28 beers, the options are plenty.

The Hound does a great job of showcasing the best craft beers from popular southern breweries. Like we said, the taps are rotational, so you’ll have to stop in and check out what they have on draft on a regular basis!

Auburn Draft House

Located in the heart of downtown, Draft House is the perfect spot to enjoy a menu themed with an interesting twist on classic bar food. Oh, not to mention they also have 45 beers on draft to satisfy that craft-itch you’ve been feeling.

Whether you are in the mood for a light lager or a stout, Draft House has it. Having a variety of Alabama and non-Alabama breweries, Draft House’s craft beer selection is truly top notch.

One of our favorite things about Draft House is that they offer $1 beer samples, so if you find yourself unable to settle on just one cold brew you can sample multiple. Draft house is the perfect place to unwind after exploring Toomer’s Corner.

Zazu Gastro Pub

Check out this video about Zazu’s from the Auburn/Opelika Tourism Bureau!

Okay, okay, we admit that this one is technically in Opelika, but it’s too good to not include on the list. Zazu’s motto is to give you a fine dining food experience in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Their focus is on making as much from scratch as possible, while using the most local produce they can.

On top of having an amazing food menu, they also have a great beer menu. With 16 craft beers on tap, Zazu offers an excellent selection in both local and regional craft beers. They also have an extensive selection of craft brews in bottles and cans.

Zazu is the place if you’re looking to pair that porter with some delicious short ribs to make for the ultimate winter date night!

The Avondale Bar & Taproom

While Avondale is a bar in a college town, it is much more than your average college bar. Overlooking Toomer’s Corner, this is the perfect location for those looking to have some nightlife fun in a more upscale setting.

With a quirky décor, low lighting  and a hidden staircase entrance, Avondale is giving us the speakeasy vibes we never knew we needed. Not only does this posh bar offer delicious craft cocktails, but their craft beer selection is one of the best in Auburn. Avondale does a great job of showcasing Alabama craft beers in a comfortable and fun environment.

With a large selection of beers on tap, as well as a fridge full of canned and bottled craft brews, Avondale is the go-to spot for those looking for an excellent craft beer in a sophisticated setting.
